STRUCTURE: The full business case for a new urgent care centre and alterations to A&E at the east London acute was approved by NHS London, who said it would provide “critical Olympics resilience”.

The £7.1m project was approved by the SHA’s capital investment committee at the beginning of September, a Freedom of Information Act request reveals.

The trust said the move will be funded by a Capital Investment Loan if the Deaprtment of Health will not provide public dividend capital.

NHS London minutes said: “given the financial challenges facing the trust, seeking support by way of CIL [is] unusual.”

The trust’s strategic outline case said their emergency department was built in 1983 for 40,000 attendances annually, but last year dealt with 112,785
