PERFORMANCE: The chairman of Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals Foundation Trust has taken the unusual step of raising concerns about the level of cleaning in the trust in his report to the March board.

Sir Peter Dixon said that this was ‘nor normally the sort of item which appears in a chairman’s report’ but he had become concerned that standards of cleaning were slipping under the trust’s new contractor.

He had raised this with senior executives and ‘walkabouts’ had been instigated and remedial measures taken. He stressed that there was no risk to patients but there were clear indications that unless action was taken ‘the standards were heading towards an unacceptable level.’
