Basildon and Thurrock Hospital Foundation Trust is making “solid progress” against the recommendations set out by NHS medical director Sir Bruce Keogh, according to commissioners.

A report by Basildon and Brentwood CCG chief officer Tonia Parsons discussed at its November board meeting added: “Following discussions with NHS England and Monitor, it has been agreed that the CCG will move its unannounced visit programme at the trust to fortnightly in order to both give the trust time to embed learning and action into practice and to free capacity within the Quality Team to focus on other quality priorities.”

A separate report discussed at the meeting said: “Discussions have be held between the Executive Nurse and the Monitor Improvement Director about the value of such an intense visit regime (given the pending positive CQC report).

“Monitor will therefore be proposing a reduction of visits from weekly to fortnightly, with a view to going monthly once the Trusts internal compliance team is re-recruited to and pending a positive outcome from the return Keogh review.”
