WORKFORCE: A former Lord Mayor of London has been appointed chair of Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals.

Ian Luder will take up his post on July 1 but will work alongside current interim chair Sir Peter Dixon from April. A new chief executive is likely to be appointed during this handover period.

Mr Luder’s appointment as a new non-executive director had already been announced but he then applied for the chair’s post. He has previously served as a non-executive at Homerton University Hospital Trust.

Mr Luder said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity of leading Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals as it strengthens its relations with the rest of the local health community and delivers the excellence which residents have a right to expect”

Barbara Riddell has been appointed as a non-executive to take up the position created by Mr Luder’s appointment.
