WORKFORCE: A number of appointments have been made to the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw cluster.

The cluster consists of NHS Sheffield, NHS Doncaster, NHS Barnsley, NHS Rotherham and NHS Bassetlaw.

Following the confirmation of NHS Rotherham chief executive Andy Buck as chief executive, the following appointments have been confirmed this month:

  • Steve Hackett, currently director of finance, contracting and performance for NHS Barnsley, has been appointed as cluster executive director of finance with effect from 1 May and executive director of finance for NHS Bassetlaw as a constituent PCT
  • Penny Brooks, currently director of standards and engagement and NHS Sheffield, has been appointed on a sessional basis as nurse director
  • Dr Phil Foster, currently medical director at NHS Bassetlaw, has been appointed on a sessional basis as medical director

The latter two posts will not be executive appointments but advisory posts.

Mr Buck has also appointed a chief operating officer in each constituent PCT. For NHS Bassetlaw this will be Phil Mettam.

Similar arrangements need to be put in place for finance. Following Steve Hackett’s appointment it is necessary to appoint a chief finance officer in each constituent PCT.

The board was asked to note the appointment of Alan Burbanks as joint chief finance officer for NHS Doncaster and NHS Bassetlaw. The start dates for both posts will be 1 June 2011.
