STRUCTURE: NHS Bath and North East Somerset is anticipating a “challenging” few months as it establishes a social enterprise for its community services.
The establishment of a community interest company (CIC) was approved by the primary care trust and Bath and North East Somerset Council in February. A company was registered on 30 March 2011 with the working name of Community Health and Care Services CIC.
Services are due to transfer to the new organisation by 1 October, under the government’s transforming community services programme.
The primary care trust and the council have each agreed to contribute £450,000 towards the CIC’s start up costs.
Appointment of Simon Knighton as chair designate and Janet Rowse as chief executive designate was completed in March and April 2011. It is envisaged both will start their roles on 1 June 2011.
A report to the PCT’s board states: “Project work streams and plans have been established for both the CIC and the commissioners although these remain challenging in their own right and in particular, in the context of the wider changes in health and the council.”
