WORKFORCE: NHS Bath and North East Somerset plans to shed about 100 posts when it transfers its provider arm to a social enterprise.
It is anticipated that the majority of these posts will be reduced through natural turnover although a provision of £600k has been made for potential redundancies. Half of the posts are required by the end of the financial year 2012/13 although it is hoped that extra income from nationally available allocations for health and social care will require additional staffing which will also mitigate the position on workforce reductions.
The PCT operates an integrated provider arm in partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Council. The transfer to a social enterprise under the transforming community services initiative will result in the transfer of around 900 PCT staff (700 wte) and 700 council staff (452 wte).
A report to the board stressed the posts would have to be lost regardless of the TCS to make necessary savings.
