In HSJ's Chronic Pain Management supplement, Shropshire GP Louise Warburton said the wait to see a pain management team in her area was six months.
But at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust, which is the main provider of hospital-based services for Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin primary care trusts, we offer a pain management service that meets the 18-week pathway with a waiting time for new referrals to the service of only five weeks. In line with best practice, we offer a multidisciplinary approach to managing pain.
Recent developments have included the introduction of pain management and expert patient programmes, development of nurse-led clinics, provision of cognitive behavioural therapy, and new clinics for fibromyalgia and acupuncture. We welcome involvement from our primary care colleagues, who can contact Heidi Smith, nurse specialist (pain management).
