PERFORMANCE: Diagnostic waits at Birmingham Children’s Hospital have been described as the “main current performance issue” in south and central Birmingham.

Birmingham South Central Clinical Commissioning Group board papers for July said: “The main current performance issue relates to six week diagnostic wait limits at BCH.

“The trust have set out an action plan to address the matter, which has arisen due to increased demand that has exceeded capacity, coupled with staffing issues.

“Additional staff have been recruited to start later in the year which will alleviate the problem, and interim arrangements are in place to manage the backlog. The CCG as a whole is meeting this target.”
