PERFORMANCE: The maternity unit at Birmingham Women’s Foundation Trust had to close five times at night in two months because of pressure, the trust board was told.
Other requests for closure were denied by the executive on call.
“On each occasion either workload had exceeded staffing or there have been capacity issues,” a report to the board in January said.
“This is an unsatisfactory situation which leads to anxiety amongst our patients,” it added.
Staffing levels and rostering are being examined.
