FINANCE: Lancashire primary care trusts are forecasting an overspend of £8.1m on their contracts with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals in 2012.
NHS Lancashire’s latest finance report states that contracts with the foundation trust were already £2.8m overspent by the end of July. The biggest overspend was for NHS Blackpool, at £1.8m for the year to date, and forecast at £5.1m for the full year.
The report adds: “The over spends incurred at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals FT are due to increased day case, non-elective and [accident and emergency] activity. Specialties affected include trauma and orthopaedics, general surgery, urology and general medicine. A substantial increased spend on excluded drugs and devices is also evident.”
