WORKFORCE: The man appointed as chief executive of troubled Bolton Foundation Trust has decided he will not be taking up the post after all.
Bolton announced earlier this month that it had appointed Kevin McGee, currently chief executive of George Eliot Hospital Trust, as its new chief executive.
But Mr McGee has now decided to stay put at the Warwickshire trust, to see through changes required following the Keogh review of trusts with high mortality rates. George Eliot was one of 14 trusts covered by the review.
A spokeswoman for Bolton FT said: “Following our recent announcement of Kevin McGee as our new chief executive, we have been informed that Kevin will not be joining us. Kevin has decided to remain with his existing trust, the George Eliot Hospital, to oversee the strategic changes required within the local health economy. We respect Kevin’s decision and wish him well.
“Given the need to maintain the progress we are making on our turnaround plan and on improvements to patient care, Dr Jackie Bene has agreed to remain as acting chief executive for the next six months when we will reconsider the position.”
