FINANCE: Local commissioners may need to renegotiate their contract with Bolton Foundation Trust if the provider’s current rate of over-performance continues, NHS Greater Manchester board papers have warned.

The primary care trust cluster’s latest finance report states that although “NHS Bolton are currently forecasting delivery of [their] target surplus, £2.9m of their £4m contingency has been utilised, mainly to cover secondary care over performance at Bolton FT”.

It adds: “If over performance continues at the current rate, there will be insufficient contingency reserves to fully cover the pressure, and slippage will need to be found from other reserves and budget areas. The contract may need to be renegotiated with the trust.”
