STRUCTURE: The primary care trust reports that it has received negative press coverage over a planned reduction in hospital beds.

According to board papers, the Bristol Evening Post ran a story on 22 December titled“anger as report reveals axe could fall on hospital’s beds”, in which it quoted local councillors criticising plans to reduce inpatient beds in Thornbury Hospital’s Henderson Ward.

In response, the PCT said it was “not clinically, operationally or financially viable to provide standalone inpatient wards”, and that by remodelling existing services and developing new facilities it would be “better able to meet the health needs of the wider local population”.
