PERFORMANCE: Buckinghamshire primary care trust is expecting to miss its target for patients accessing dental services after extra provision commissioned to meet demand was cancelled.
A performance report for the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire PCT cluster said that it was not likely that it would be given the chance to revise the target, “and therefore access figures for Buckinghamshire will not meet the planned target for March 2013.”
The PCT commissioned additional dental capacity to meet demand, awarding new dental contracts in that began to provide services in September 2010.
However, access numbers continue to slip. “This is due to the cancellation of one of the new schemes commissioned in 2010 and delay commencement of a second contract until the next financial year,” the report said.
“Additional capacity has been commissioned at an existing practice close to where the cancelled scheme was proposed to ensure that need is met.”
However the PCT is still unlikely to hit its March 2013 target.
