Burton Hospitals Foundation Trust has announced the appointment of Helen Scott-South as its new chief executive.

Former boss Helen Askley announced her resignation last month.

The trust said it a statement was looking at “strengthening its collaborative working arrangements with partners across Staffordshire and Derbyshire” and exploring “potential strategic options for the future”.

Ms Scott-South had been interim chief executive at Derby Teaching Hospitals where she was chief operating officer for five years. She has previously been director of operations at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.

Burton Hospitals new chair John Rivers, who is continuing in his role as chair at Derby Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, said: “Helen brings immense focus and a sense of real energy and pace to everything she does. This makes her the ideal person to lead the trust as it continues its journey of improvement post-special measures, and as it explores plans that respond both to the changing needs of the communities we serve and to the financial challenges the trust currently faces.”
