STRUCTURE: Mental health services are to undergo a major change in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough including the establishment of a 24/7 advice and referral centre to provide a single point of access.

A three month consultation showed widespread support for the centre and a proposed primary care mental health service to support this. But there was concern over proposals to combine a number of inpatient wards, which were also approved by the NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough cluster board  - including closing two acute wards and reducing the number of rehabilitation beds.

Cathy Mitchell, director of integrated commissioning said the closures were for clinical reasons, reflecting the increased number of people who could be cared for at home.

The crisis resolution home treatment team in Huntingdon will be increased as a result of feedback during the public consultation. A local diagnosis service for adults with autism or ADHD is also being developed.
