STRUCTURE: One clinical commissioning group could cover Cambridgeshire and Peterborough - but with local commissioning groups bringing together practices.
NHS Cambridgeshire heard that a meeting of GP clinical leaders supported the idea of a single CCG which could be set up in shadow form as early as January and have delegated powers for 2012-13.
While the CCG would be big enough to manage financial risk and attract staff, LCGs would help to engage GPs in commissioning.
“Each local commissioning group should have the resources to deliver and the flexibility to move forwards at a pace which makes sense locally,” a report said. Practices will now be asked whether this is the best way forward.
