STRUCTURE: NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will go out to competitive procurement for an integrated urgent care service in Peterborough under its primary care and urgent care strategy.

The proposed services would include a GP-led walk-in centre, minor injuries service with X-ray and GP out-of-hours services.

“The current contracts for GP out-of-hours service and walk in centre would end,” according to a report to NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This would save the PCT cluster more than £500,000 by 2014-15.

The cluster also wants to move to larger GP surgeries and is proposing to create four new health centres. An appeal to the Co-operation and Competition Panel related to this has been successful leading to the cluster re-examining its plans and establishing an independent clinical review.

The PCT says that the strategy was amended as a result of the consultation including ensuring the new service would employ a GP in-hours as well as evenings and weekends.
