STRUCTURE: New arrangements for out of hours GP services in Cambridgeshire risk increasing “serious incidents”, according to the local primary care trust.

NHS Cambridgeshire’s board assurance framework, submitted to the July board meeting, notes that there is a “red” rated risk “associated with [the] new out of hours service provided by Urgent Care Cambridgeshire”.

It said there was a risk of “reputational damage, possible risk of increase in serious incidents, non-compliance with legislation” associated with the move, which will mean 34,000 Cambridgeshire patients will be covered by an out of hours service in Peterborough.

To address the issue, the PCT said it would have monthly contract monitoring meetings, clinical quality reviews and “ongoing spotchecks”.
