STRUCTURE: The South Cheshire CCG governing board has warned of the potential for a conflict of interest for its clinical information officer who also holds the post of executive GP on the CCG.
According to board papers Dr Neil Paul has declared a conflict of interest as he is also director of a company called ‘from your practice limited’.
Although not yet trading the company intends to provide outpatient services in a number of specialty areas and will be seeking NHS contracts to do so. They have plans to provide services to patients of member practices of the South Cheshire CCG.
Despite initially deciding that Dr Paul’s position on the commissioning advisory board was “a clear conflict” and removing him from it, the CCG’s governing body has now decided to individual “contract back his input into IT and clinical Information systems either directly or via another organisation”.
“This would mean that he was not party to the general workings of the CCG and that any briefing or access to data or information was specific to that particular project.”
