Two commissioning support units are to merge next year, HSJ can reveal.

North East London CSU and South East CSU will join together under the former’s name in April 2017.

The CSUs each work with 28 CCGs in London and the South East

A joint statement from the organisations said: “NEL CSU and South East CSU have been looking at ways in which the two CSUs can work more closely together in providing commissioning support to their customers.

“During [the intervening] period both CSUs will continue to remain focused on the planning round, delivering value for their customers, and building on both organisations’ strengths.”

Asked if the move would entail redundancies and where the new organisation would be based, a spokeswoman said: “We’re at the initial planning stages and this level of detail is not yet confirmed. Staff at both CSUs will be consulted and kept informed throughout the process.”

South East CSU was itself the product of a merger between Kent and Medway CSU and South East London CSU two years ago.

It employs more than 1,000 staff and works with 28 clinical commissioning groups.

North East London CSU works with 28 CCGs in London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and East Anglia.
