STRUCTURE: Kernow clinical commissioning group has been authorised with just three conditions in the first wave of CCGs to be approved by the NHS Commissioning Board.

The NHS Commissioning Board will provide “expertise and support” to the CCG in relation to its commissioning and financial planning after flagging these as weak areas during the authorisation process. These were among the most common areas of concern among the 34 CCGs authorised in wave one.

The third area of concern was around “on-going discussion between the CCG and provider organisations about long-term strategy and plans”.

The CCG has 70 practices serving a population of 540,000 in Cornwall.

The CCG’s priorities are:

  • To work across health and social care to integrate services for the benefit of patients;
  • To put patients at the heart of commissioning through developing the People’s Commissioning Board;
  • To develop a seamless, county-wide 24-hour urgent care service.
