STRUCTURE: Cornwall and Isles of Scilly PCT GPs are now proposing two clinical commissioning groups, down from an initial six practice based commissioning groups.

A December chief executive board paper says: “The six GP practices that formed the original Mid Cornwall Pathfinder Consortium, serving around 51,000 patients, have decided to disband as a prospective clinical commissioning group and join with the Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group at the end of this year.

“Kernow CCG will then comprise 59 GP practices serving a population of 464,800, placing it among the largest being formed so far across the country.

“The merger means that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has two clinical commissioning groups, Kernow CCG and East Cornwall CCG, which represents 86,900 patients. East Cornwall CCG is in discussion with CCGs in services from Plymouth Hospitals Trust, and with Kernow CCG about commissioning community and mental health services.”

There were six GP groups in the PCT area previously, some of which had already decided to merge. The six were East Cornwall Locality Group, North Cornwall Commissioning Group, Newquay Commissioning Group, Mid Cornwall Medical and Carrick Commissioning Consortium.
