PERFORMANCE: County Durham and Darlington PCTs have the best uptake of the summary care record nationally, according to a PCT report.
A board paper says: “Work on introducing the summary care record (SCR) has been progressing well in County Durham and Darlington… More than 90 per cent of patients in NHS Darlington have a summary care record, making it the primary care trust with the highest uptake to date in England.
“The other headlines for members of the joint board to note are: 51 (62 per cent) out of 82 eligible practices in County Durham and Darlington have gone ‘live’ and are uploading SCRs; 11 out of 12 practices in Darlington and 40 practices in County Durham are using the SCR; all remaining practices are scheduled to upload with an expected completion date of September 2011; an SCR ‘viewing’ application will be made available to local trusts, urgent care centres etc.
“Open discussion and constructive engagement with GP practices, combined with a strong public information campaign, have been instrumental in the success to date of our summary care record projects. Preliminary discussions are taking place with clinicians and IT colleagues at Darlington Memorial Hospital about starting to use SCRs in the A&E department.”
