Delayed transfers rises at two Warwickshire trusts

Arden primary care trust cluster board papers show that the trust and its neighbour Coventry and Warwickshire Hospitals Trust both had delayed transfer rates well in excess of the target of 3.5 per cent of total bed occupany.

For Coventry and Warwickshire the most recent figure, for April, was 5.2 per cent. It has been over since at least July 2011.

For South Warwickshire, the figure was 6.6 per cent.

However the figure for nearby George Eliot Hospital Trust was 2.2 per cent, an improvement on April’s 3.5 per cent score.

July board papers said: “[South Warwickshire] clinical commissioning group explained to the cluster that they have discussed with SWFT the issues and were told that this was due to social worker availability.”

A meeting was due to be held with social care during July “to try and reach a resolution.”

The papers also said that Coventry and Warwickshire trust were “actively recruiting” staff to help with assessments relating to continuing healthcare, social care, and mental health.
