WORKFORCE: Staff in post at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust are 314 whole time equivalent below the funded level, but the organisation is still overspending on staff in some areas.
The provider overspent on nursing staff costs for mental health inpatient wards by £309,000 for the first quarter of 2011-12.
The trust’s finance report for July said: “This is primarily due to agency staff expenditure exceeding vacancy levels, with a key driver being specialling.”
The trust’s community services family support overspent by £66,000 in June, “mainly relating to agency usage”. The report said the service was recruiting to cut agency spend. There were also agency-related overspends in fast response and unscheduled care teams.
Pay budgets overall underspent by £117,000 in the first quarter of 2011-12.
Staff sickness levels decreased to 4.63 per cent in June, down from 5.08 per cent in May.
In 2010-11 those costs totalled £1.3m, twice the cost of the previous financial year.
