STRUCTURE: Dorset Healthcare University Foundation Trust is planning to “refresh the organisational brand” after taking on community service provision.

The former mental health trust took on community services formerly provided by NHS Dorset and NHS Bournemouth and Poole under the transforming community services programme and also provides some services in Hampshire.

In his report to March’s board, chief executive Paul Sly said the existing name caused “confusion” among patients about what the trust did. It is proposed the trust becomes known as just Dorset HealthCare.

Mr Sly said the reasons for the new name were “threefold”:

  • To better reflect the new, bigger trust
  • To engender a sense of ‘one team’ amongst the Trust’s staff, as the existing culture is still fragmented
  • To ensure better integration of teams across the Trust for the benefit of patients
