WORKFORCE: Dorset Healthcare Foundation Trust has appointed Ron Shields as permanent chief executive.
Mr Shields was appointed to head up the troubled trust on an interim basis in October, after the previous chief executive stood down.
The mental health trust was subject to regulatory action by Monitor last year over repeated failure to address quality concerns. The regulator also found the leadership had underestimated the scale of the challenge involved when it took on community services under the transforming community services programme in 2011.
Mr Shields previously ran Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust for more than ten years, a mental health trust which also took on services under TCS.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the trust chief executive. During the past four and a half months I have been made exceptionally welcome by staff and governors in the trust. It has been a real pleasure working with colleagues in local government and to have met with so many of the GPs in the county.
“This is a good trust, with real potential to excel at providing health care to the people of Dorset.”
