Your article about health scrutiny (opinion, page 20, 31 May) made the point that it is helpful to involve councillors on health overview scrutiny committees when considering.service changes at an early stage. That is absolutely right.
One of Gloucestershire health overview scrutiny committee's pleas to health trust bosses here is 'no surprises please'. The early involvement of committees.in service change can often take the sting out of.any new proposals.
That does mean, however, that committees need to be consulted in a.very full and transparent way by trust managers. The.work committees do is tough enough without trust managers being deliberately evasive and awkward when answering questions at meetings.
