PERFORMANCE: Improvements in food at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust have resulted from a new ward oven system.
“Following local press interest in the quality of food… Meridian ITV were invited to see (and taste) for themselves the improvements in patient mealtimes since the ward housekeeping system was introduced,” according to the chief executive’s report to the latest board meeting.
“The new system, of heating a choice of 24 lunch meals in conventional ovens in the ward kitchens, is more flexible and frees nurses up to concentrate on assisting patients who need help eating,” it said.
“In the latest patient satisfaction survey, 94% of patients asked at the hospital rated the food ‘good’ or ‘very good’ and 100% said they had help to eat when they needed it.”
