STRUCTURE: East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust’s board of directors have agreed the full business case for a new community hospital in Dover.

Subject to planning permission, work should start in December, with completion due in the summer of 2014. The new £21m hospital will be built on the site of the existing Buckland hospital.

In the trust’s latest newsletter, chief executive Stuart Bain said: “We have been working towards this day for a number of years….The new hospital will provide the people of Dover and the surrounding area with a one stop shop approach to high quality health services, providing assessment, diagnostics and treatment plans on one site.”

The trust’s Dover Project Team has entered into a ProCure21 partnership with Interserve Ltd, which has been commissioned to design and build the new hospital. They in turn will be using Nightingale Associates to provide architectural services for the scheme.

Mechanical and electrical engineering design services will be provided by Arup UK, and structural engineering services will be provided by Capita.
