STRUCTURE: East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust says a new community hospital is due to be completed in the Dover area by Christmas 2014.

Dover District Council planning committee has unanimously approved the trust’s application to build the facility on its existing Buckland site. The approval is conditional on the trust monitoring the “Green Commuter” plan contained within the application.

The trust has agreed funding of £21m for the new hospital. It will offer patients a “one-stop-shop approach”, with most seeing a clinician, having tests, receiving the results and agreeing a care plan on the same site and on the same day.

Liz Shutler, director of strategic development and capital planning for the trust, said: “We are delighted at the news, which will allow us to move ahead and begin building this new community hospital.”
