STRUCTURE: The London review of pathology services has proposed centralising pathology in south west London at St George’s Hospital.

Minutes of a board meeting at Epsom and St Helier University Hospital Trust said the board had raised concerns about the move which would see St Helier left as a “spoke” to St George’s “hub”.

The board provisionally agreed the proposal from NHS London should move to the full business case stage, subject to a list of caveats.

One of the caveats was that “the service would be required to be more cost effective for the trust than presently and [the trust must be] be assured of the trust’s share of the annual recurrent benefits of £10m stated in the options appraisal.”
