The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed the trusts and partnerships which will receive capital funding worth around £900m for building developments.
In total, 75 schemes (see below) across the country will receive £963m in this tranche of government capital spending. It is part of an overall £3.5bn pot which was announced in its 2017 autumn budget.
Almost £800m will go to regions outside London.
The largest single award was to the Humber, Coast and Vale sustainability and transformation partnership, which has been allocated £88.5m for “diagnostic equipment and transformation of urgent and emergency care”.
The North Central London STP has been allocated £86m to transform mental health and substance misuse services through redeveloping Camden and Islington Foundation Trust’s St Pancras Hospital.
Health secretary Matt Hancock said the money would “support dedicated staff through the redevelopment and modernisation of buildings”, and allow for the launch of additional services.
The government has spent nearly £2bn from the £3.5bn package promised in the 2017 budget.
At that time, £2.6bn was earmarked for STPs, while the rest of the money was put forward for backlog maintenance and energy efficiency schemes.
The DHSC’s statement acknowledged that additional capital funding was required as part of the NHS long-term plan, stating: “The government has been clear that it will consider proposals from the NHS for a multi-year capital plan to support transformation, which will form part of the decisions for the next spending review.”
