STRUCTURE: Work has begun on a strategic plan for the future of healthcare in East Berkshire, with the aim of establishing “clinically sustainable” care services by 2013-14.
The programme, titled Shaping the Future for East Berkshire, involves the NHS Berkshire primary care trust cluster, clinical commissioning groups, and Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals Foundation Trust.
A statement to the board’s July meeting by the acute trust’s chair Christopher Langley said: “The programme reflects the fact that both the trust and the PCT have agreed to work in partnership to establish a financially and clinically sustainable model of care for East Berkshire which meets the needs of the local population by the end of 2013-14.”
The work is supported by a joint strategy board and a joint programme board, who began meeting in late June. The strategy would be a “key focus” for the three-year annual plan, submitted to Monitor last month, Mr Langley said.
