PERFORMANCE: Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust is the worst performer in the South Central region for venous thromboembolism, with performance declining in the first quarter of 2011-12.
NHS Berkshire said that, in quarter one of 2011-12, the trust was assessing just 56 per cent of patients for VTE on admission, against a target of 90 per cent.
This was down on the March 2011 figure of 61 per cent.
The primary care trust cluster’s integrated performance report for September said the trust had been recruiting a VTE lead nurse during August in a bid to improve performance.
A VTE awareness campaign also launched that month, and a continuous quality improvement lead was also recruited.
