STRUCTURE: Frimley Park Hospital received its first patient by air ambulance this month after its new helipad became fully operational.

Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance landed on the hospital’s new landing pad with a patient requiring emergency medical treatment soon after midday on 16 October. The patient was transferred directly to the new resuscitation department where he was later described as stable.

Frimley Park’s helipad sits on top of the hospital’s £22m hospital extension, which houses its new emergency department that opened in July and includes one of the biggest resuscitation units in Europe.

The helipad is positioned directly above the department and linked via a dedicated lift.

Frimley Park hospital was recently designated a trauma unit.
