WORKFORCE: The FT is making efforts to improve areas of poor performance in theatres, with a focus on improving management of controlled drugs.
At its February board meeting, members reviewed a clinical governance committee report, which highlighted several issues.
Board papers note that trust director of nursing Mary Dunne “drew the board’s attention” to trauma and orthopaedics, theatres and patient safety.
Regarding theatres, the papers said: The trust had invited the police to review arrangements for the management of controlled drugs in theatres and to make a subsequent walkabout to talk to theatre staff.”
This it was hoped “would send a powerful message to everyone about the importance the trust afforded to the safe management of controlled drugs”.
