STRUCTURE: NHS Norfolk and Waveney is talking to different healthcare providers about keeping a surgery in New Costessey, four miles outside Norwich, open.
A GP partnership which runs the Beechcroft branch surgery in the village has said it wants to close it, because two GPs are retiring.
Director of primary care for NHS Norfolk and Waveney Nikki Cocks said: “Keeping the branch surgery at Beechcroft open is what both patients and we would wish to see in an ideal world.
“A number of organisations and people have suggested to us they would be interested in running the branch surgery and we shall continue to work towards this.
“However it is prudent to plan for all eventualities, which is why we would also have to discuss with Taverham Partnership how their patients might continue to see their doctor or nurse or perhaps transfer to a different surgery, if necessary.”
