PERFORMANCE: The primary care trust NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan had 4,254 patients on waiting lists for diagnostic tests at the end of June, of which 81 had been waiting for more than six weeks, latest Department of Health data shows.

That meant 1.9 per cent of the waiting list had been waiting for longer than the six-week threshold, against a national target of less than 1 per cent.

The PCT had the third-highest proportion of over-six-week waiters in the North West, after NHS Central and Eastern Cheshire, and NHS Western Cheshire.
