FINANCE: Bolton CCG set aside a provision of £3.7m in 2012-13 to cover the potential future costs of settling backdated claims for Continuing Healthcare funding, board papers state.
Commissioners received a large volume of retrospective claims for CHC funding last year, after the government set a deadline for anyone wishing to claim for care received before 2011.
The CCG’s latest finance report states: “The CCG has… set aside a provision of £3.7m for potential future payments in relation to [continuing care] restitution claims.
“This has been funded from reserves. External auditors have reviewed the methodology for calculating the provision and agreed the approach.”
It adds: “It should be noted that £3.7m of reserves has been utilised to fund the Continuing Care restitution provision and the remaining reserves of £7m has been used to offset the overspend on budgets and the underperformance against the [cost improvement programme].”
