PERFORMANCE: Twenty-six hospital bed days in adult psychiatric wards were occupied by patients aged 16 and 17 at Greater Manchester West Mental Health Foundation Trust in quarter two.

This is despite guidance stating that no 16 and 17 year-olds should be placed in adult psychiatric wards.

The trust is among 39 trusts and primary care trusts reporting to have acted against the guidance, out of 173 providing data to the Department of Health between July and September 2010.

It is in the 20 trusts with the highest number of underage patients placed on adult wards.

However, there were 2,039 hospital occupied bed days on children and adolescent mental health services wards of patients aged under 18 in quarter two at the trust.
