Peter Homa is to chair the board overseeing the collaboration between Royal Brompton and Harefield Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ FT.

The former chief executive of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust has already chaired one meeting of the partnership board, Guy’s and St Thomas’ chair Sir Hugh Taylor reported to the board of the south London trust, and would produce a preliminary report “on the scope for collaboration”.

HSJ revealed last year that Royal Brompton, a specialist heart and lung centre, was considering a move to land owned by Guy’s and St Thomas’. The plans could see Royal Brompton sell its valuable land in Chelsea and build a 550 bed, £800m new hospital in Waterloo.

Sir Hugh’s report to the board said discussions were “at an early stage”.

The move would see Royal Brompton establish closer ties with King’s College London as an academic partner.
