PERFORMANCE: Emergency department waiting times have been identified as a “key performance concern” by the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth primary care trust cluster.
May board papers said that going into 2012-13, “one of the key performance concerns throughout quarter four of 2011-12… has been the four hour accident and emergency target.”
Portsmouth Hospitals Trust did not meet the target of admitting or discharging 95 per cent of emergency patients in four hours in quarter four of 2011-12.
Performance in March was at 88 per cent of patients seen within 4 hours. “Performance levels in quarter one of 2012-13 are also a concern,” the papers said, with 90.5 per cent of patients seen within four hours.
The CCGs and other partners are supporting the trust to improve its performance.
University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust did not hit the four hour target in quarter four of 2011-12. Performance in March was at 92.2 per cent.
“Performance levels in quarter one of 2012-13 are also a concern”, the board papers said, with waits of four hours or less for 93.2 per cent of patients for the first six weeks of the year.
“A comprehensive action plan is in place to increase capacity, expand the consultant and nursing workforce and improve patient flows through the system.”
