Heart of Birmingham teaching primary care trust has appointed Kevin McGee as its interim chief executive.

Mr McGee, who will take up his new post in March, joins the PCT at a time of significant organisational change due to the impending public spending squeeze.

As reported in HSJ last December, Birmingham’s three primary care trusts – Birmingham East and North, Heart of Birmingham and South Birmingham - are in the process of reviewing their commissioning functions with a merger strongly on the cards (news, page 11, 10 December).

Commenting on his new appointment, Mr McGee said: “I am delighted to be joining the trust at what is a very exciting time for the PCT.

“I will be wanting to help build on the excellent work already taking place in Heart of Birmingham with those who know best how to improve health services…..so that these major investments and changes really make a difference.”

Mr McGee will take over from current chief executive Dr Sandy Bradbrook who is retiring at the end of March after 25 years in the NHS.
