STRUCTURE: West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust has taken over a stroke ward and a ward for patients awaiting placement in a nursing home after Hertfordshire Community Trust said it could not guarantee safe provision of services.

The Hemel Hempstead Hospital wards had been managed by West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust in the past.

Hertfordshire Community Trust chief executive David Law said: “[The transfer] was agreed by the board because of the safety issues caused by uncertainty around the continued requirement for beds, the impact on staffing and the uncertainty of funding. There had been five plans to close the beds, none of which were finally actioned.”
