Homerton University Hospital Foundation Trust has appointed a former Bank of England deputy governor as its new chair, the trust has announced.

Current deputy chair Sir John Gieve will move into the role when the incumbent, Sir Tim Melville-Ross, finishes his six-year term in April.

Sir John was deputy governor of the Bank of England from 2006 to 2009 and permanent secretary at the Home Office between 2001 and 2005.

Trust chief executive Tracey Fletcher said: “We always emphasise the advantages of continuity in how our trust is managed and, with that in mind, we are delighted that the governors have confirmed the appointment of Sir John to be our new chair.

“I would also take this opportunity to thank Sir Tim for his outstanding leadership and diplomacy over the past six years which have helped steer us through some difficult times, and ensured that we continue to prosper in providing high-quality care to all our patients.”
