WORKFORCE: Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust has appointed Nigel Beverley as its new chair.
Mr Beverley will join the trust next month, but will formally take over the role from acting chair Bob Holmes in July.
The trust’s previous chair, Ian Luder, stepped down in January in order to stand as the UKIP candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock in the general election.
Mr Beverley has a background in health management. He has previously been an interim director at Medway Hospital Foundation Trust, Ipswich Hospital Trust and Hinchingbrooke Hospital Trust. He was a strategic adviser at Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group.
Non-executive director Peter Sheldrake, who chairs Basildon and Thurrock’s appointments committee, said: “Despite the strong competition for the post, Nigel was the successful candidate and we’re very pleased to welcome him to the trust.
“The organisation has transformed in recent years, earning us a ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.
“It is thanks to the strong leadership of the trust and the hard work of all staff that our patients experience the best possible care.
“We strongly feel Nigel is the person to carry on this leadership as we embark on the next chapter of our journey.”
