COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY: Health secretary Andrew Lansley has backed a plan by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust to buy land for a new hospital via a compulsory purchase order.
Mr Lansley confirmed via a letter to the board that: “There is a compelling case, in the public interest, for the confirmation of the order to facilitate the construction of a new hospital and associated facilities.”
The trust has already purchased around a third of the site.
It now has to wait approval of the outline business case, which is being reviewed by the Department of Health and the Treasury.
